An Osprey on Sunday

We’ve seen this osprey before.  Several times.  But it has always been foggy, drippy, or otherwise poor photo weather.  It fishes this stretch of the Elk River as it reaches the bay.  Well, today we got lucky.  The black and white hawk caught a fish, then devoured it on the weathered pilings of an old bridge while we watched – and photographed.

  1. Thanks, Millie. When the bird pulled pieces from the fish, some came off with difficulty. This was when it used a flight-like motion to aid in pulling off bite-sized chunks. After a long time watching for this bird to return, I was lucky to get some interesting shots.
