Half-Grown Great Blue & A Really Big Fish

You’ve got to see this!  When I saw something was happening up the beach, I picked up my little dog and rushed toward the action.  The contest between bird and fish was so fascinating, I was lucky to get any photos at all.

  1. What a great sequence of photos, Judith. You captured the Great Blue Heron’s meal brilliantly. He manipulated that fish so well and deserved to feel ‘well stuffed’ afterwards! All your rushing about to get to the beach in time was well worth it. 🙂

    • I share your love for the Great Blue Heron. Today was a really lucky day. At first, I thought the half-grown bird had gotten into something dangerous, as old fishing gear or something like that. I grabbed up my little rescued doggie and ran (well, at my age, rushed) down to the beach to get close enough to see what was going on and to determine what I could do about it. It was then I saw the thing it had was a very large fish – large even for an adult bird. I was mesmerized and nearly forgot to photograph. Luckily for me, it took quite a while to get the fish turned head up so it could be eaten. I’m really glad you liked the result.
